Cecil Textbook of Medicine CD ROM - 2001 Edition

Editors: Goldman and Bennett

Many of us are familiar with the text of this highly respected medical textbook. It is high quality, well known and used by many. So without doubt the content is of good calibre and is a superb coverage of general medicine.

Though large tomes are still in use, the advent of the CD-ROM allows a user to access a large volume of high quality information in a different and for some, in an easier and more convenient way. The installation is easy (the test version was windows, using windows 98) and the CD-ROM uses Internet Explorer and so has a web style interface which many users will be familiar with.

The standard options such as browsing and searching are easily available and straightforward to use. In fact, the interface allows easy and unhindered access to the content. As befits a web style interface, there is sensible use made of hypertext links. It is also easy to add notes to the main text.

For a busy GP who wants rapid access to general medical information, putting this CD in their surgery computer will certainly go some way towards achieving this aim.
