Clinical Medicine

Editors: P Kumar and M Clark

Most general physicians, specialists and primary care practitioners all need access to a general medical text. That could be an on line source but the need for a general reference source on a bookshelf has not really diminished. So if you are on the lookout for something along these lines then look at this book. It is a paperback but at just over 1400 pages; it is comprehensive and yet accessible.

Like all modern textbooks, there is a liberal use of colour, text boxes and illustrations. Importantly the text is up to date and certainly relevant to modern primary care. Unusually for a general medical book, it is just as useful for medical students as well as for postgraduates - not an easy balance to achieve.

One excellent feature of the book is the associated web site. Full text of the book is here and free access is gained via a code which is obtained from the inside cover - by rubbing off a sticker. The web site is easy to use and ideal if you have web access from the desktop at the surgery whilst the book is in the library. As well as having all the usual search features, there is the ability to ask the authors a question.

All in all excellent value for money and the bonus of the website is well worth having.
