Endocrinology and Metabolism - Clinical Medicine Series

Editor: Aldo Pinchera

In the United Kingdom, more and more secondary care is being devolved in to primary care. This means that general practitioners are having to manage more complex problems than they previously been used to. So accessing material that will help them to manage patients that have complicated problems is always going to be a great help.

This book which covers a field that constitutes a major workload (this book also covers diabetes) for GPs, is ideal to help them. In just over 800 pages, there is a comprehensive review of the subject. Rare and common problems are covered in a detailed manner, which should mean that it is unlikely that a GP would have to consult other textbooks. Just to make the book interesting, there are some really excellent chapters that cover areas that we often don’t think about. For example, there is a really interesting chapter on the endocrinology of ageing and male infertility. Common problems such as osteoporosis are also dealt in a very comprehensive fashion and should provide the ideal level of information for the average GP. If you are looking for a textbook to cover this area, then this is a fine candidate.
