Griffith’s 5-minute Clinical Consult

Editor: Mark R Dambro

Almost certainly, at some point, you have waded through large medical textbooks trying to obtain basic and pertinent information about a condition. Well this book is a refreshing change, this is not a textbook in the traditional sense but it is a reference work. Instead there are about 1000 topics authored by over 300 contributors. There are just under 600 topics covered in full format, that is over 2 pages whilst a further 400 topics are covered in shortened format. The style is designed for rapid access and the information is presented in short note format, under simple headings such as basics, diagnosis, treatment etc.

This is the tenth annual edition and so over the years, the contributors have had a good chance of getting the content just right. In fact, this is an excellent reference source for a primary care practitioner, covering a huge range of material. Virtually all the medical and surgical specialities are represented and the style of the book makes the information easily accessible and understandable. Despite it’s American origins, it is highly relevant to UK based general practice and is a superb reference source without being a boring textbook.
