The Patient’s Internet Handbook

Authors: Robert Kiley and Elizabeth Graham

Yes it is book, as the title suggests, aimed at patients and as such is ideal to recommend to our patients.

It is British and so has a good angle of the patient view of health on the net from a UK angle. In fact it is a superb book, being well produced, readable and distinctly non-techie. Even better for a shade under ten pounds, it represents excellent value for money. However I would argue that this is a book which can be recommended to doctors as well. Especially if they are a little overwhelmed by the rise of this new technology and feel a little left behind.

This book can be seen as a gentle helping hand to the doctor looking to learn more about medicine in cyberspace. It is divided into five sections, with the first one looking at the basics, then moving on to searching for information. The final section looks at 100 medical conditions and how they are represented on line. Chapter 4 on searching the web is excellent and it is worth buying the book just to read this. Finally the reviewer of this book, is mentioned on page 159, but this does not alter my opinion; this is an excellent good value for money book, which will be ideal for medics and patients alike.
