Rudolph’s Paediatrics
Editors: Colin Rudolph, Abraham Rudolph, Margaret Hostetter, George Lister and Norman Siegel
This is a typical large tome, which acts as one stop reference source. Now that is not a criticism as the days of the single volume large textbook - 2688 pages in this case - is far from dead. There is a still demand for this type of book, the first edition was published in 1897 and so this is the third century that has witnessed a version of this book. Considering it is a large book, it is sturdily assembled which means it can cope with the rigours of being used in a busy library.
The text is detailed, seemingly comprehensive and of course is well up to date. The text is interspersed with a number of illustrations and tables but most of the information is conveyed through the written word.
Though it is a multi-author book - there are a large number of contributors - and the authors are mainly American based, this book will appeal to a global audience. Naturally this is a book aimed at the specialist, however a GP with a special interest in paediatrics would be pleased to have access to it. Without doubt, this is an excellent detailed single volume paediatric reference source, which should answer the vast majority of questions in a clinical situation.
